Past Neighborhood Watch Tips

Auto-burglaries have been a recent problem in the Katy area.  Dubbed “carhopping”, groups of juveniles go house to house in Katy area subdivisions looking for unlocked cars – stealing anything they can quickly grab.  Raintree Village reported some fifteen auto-burglaries last year; in all instances the car was left unlocked, in some instances it was only left unlocked in the driveway for a few minutes during the day.  Avoid becoming a victim of this type of crime, always lock your doors.

Summer Vacations!  Remember to protect your property while you are away on that much deserved trip.  Your home should appear lived in to throw off potential burglars looking for an easy target. Have a neighbor pick up your mail, or have the post office hold it until you return; the same goes for your newspaper and other regular deliveries.  Make sure your yard is maintained and nothing is left out in the front that would not normally be left idle for several days. You may even want to ask a neighbor to place your trash can in front of your home on pick-up days.  You can also go by the Sheriff’s Store Front on Fry and fill out a vacation form so that the deputies are aware that your home is vacant. If you have a Home Security System, you may also be able to submit a vacation form to the monitoring company. As you can see – neighbors can play an important role in protecting each others homes.
